Otoplasty (ear esthetic surgery)

The purpose of the surgery is obtaining a normal, symmetric shape of the ears, without interfering with their functions. It is recommended to perform this intervention before reaching school age, in order to protect your child from malicious remarks coming from other children. The surgery can be performed on adults of any age.

  • Congenital aesthetic flaws (flap-ears or asymmetric ones);
  • Acquired aesthetic flaws (post trauma);
  • After the age of 5, when the ear has almost reached the size of an adult ear.

The general section is added to the above information.
During the consultation, you will be informed regarding the obligatory tests to be undertaken (blood, EKG, pulmonary X-ray), the surgical technique, and the post-op recuperatory period.

Risks and complications:

  • Are rare;
  • Can be easily treated, without influencing the final result of the intervention;
  • Retroauricular hematoma;
  • Small dehiscents of the wound;
  • Tegument and cartilage local infections.

The method:
  • Is established following the examination, taking into account the flaw which needs to be corrected;
  • The intervention is made under local or general anesthesia;
  • It lasts for about an hour;
  • The incisions are usually made behind the ear, with hardly visible scars and excellent results;
  • The stitches are removed 8 to 12 days after the intervention, during which time, the patient will wear a compressive bandage;
  • Post-op, trauma on the operated ears should be avoided;
  • The patient will be hospitalized only if general anesthesia is needed;
  • Recovery is quick.
